Art and Art Studios
Nature
drew the landscape. Architects designed the physical structure to
preserve its beauty; but residents brought the culture of art into
the community. Our Art Studios are an added amenity to support that
culture which continues to grow into the fourth decade of Cathedral
Village.
- A Contemporary Painting Studio -
Residents are welcome to bring paints and brushes and use the studio
privately. Well-known professional artists from the Delaware Valley,
including some of our own, conduct workshops and classes throughout
the year. There is no charge for the classes and residents are
always welcome to attend.
-
Clay Studio - Classes in clay work are
also offered in a separate studio adjacent to the Craft Room.
Instructors visit weekly (at no charge) for residents who prefer the
tactile feeling of creating three-dimensional artwork.
- The Art Exhibit Committee brings a new
Exhibit to the walls of Houston Commons each month. Resident artists
are featured as well as artists from the Delaware Valley and each
exhibit introduces a different art form.
- Three dimensional collages; walls
bedecked with handmade jewelry
- Intricate quilts and hand woven fabrics
- Pastels to oils, intricate pen and ink
drawings, stunning watercolors
- Captivating photography from scenes
around the Village to unknown villages around the world
- An Art Museum Committee organizes trips to the Philadelphia
Museum of Art and others throughout the region with our Security
staff providing transportation.
- The Arts and Review Committee arranges
monthly programs devoted to the arts and public issues, designed to
challenge, instruct and to have fun.

- Not all art involves painting
or sculpting:
- The Craft Room is equipped with sewing
machines, cutting boards for quilters and large tables for fabric
arts, personal sewing projects and more unusual hobbies like book
binding.
- Craftsmen have access to a fully
equipped Woodworking room.
