What first drew my wife Skip and me to Cathedral Village was the interesting, vibrant mix of people in its community. The cheerful greetings of people passing each other in hallways. The pleasant buzz of conversation in the sunny dining rooms. The interesting news of activities and the excellent writings of residents in The Villager issues mailed to us in advance of our signing up.
What confirmed our choice of coming here was the sensitive management that treats us like mature adults and creates such a morale among the various staffs that all the employees treat us like family, and indeed they too are family, consisting of two and three generations of employees and very little turn-over. Most interesting, the array of activities, almost all of which are run by residents without the intrusion of an activities director. Finally, the well-run out-patient health care and eventually Bishop White Lodge. We came here when we were younger and more vigorous, and we’re happy to call Cathedral Village our home.

It is so easy to entertain family and friends. Our grandchildren have a really good time here. A dynamic place where residents take the lead and are supported by the administration in planning and presenting a wide range of activities. A beautiful and comfortable environment, well maintained. We enjoy the staff; friendly, caring, knowledgeable, hard-working individuals who keep things running smoothly and cheerfully accommodate residents’ individual needs. If you need stress in your life, don’t come to Cathedral Village.

For the first time in years, I feel completely safe. After reading in the library or working in the computer room or playing some card game in the Lounge, I walk casually to my apartment, enjoying the night air and sounds, sometimes after 10:00 p.m.
While driving in the area – wherever I go – I feel secure knowing that with the Village Emergency Number help will be available if needed. It’s a wonderful feeling of freedom.
I’ve always been active and since I came to the Village from out-of-state, I wondered how I would get around. I have subscriptions to the Orchestra and Chamber Music concerts and to the Ballet; the Village takes us to all of them, as well as to the Theater, Opera, the Museum of Art and once a month, on a day trip to a place of interest in and out-of-state. It’s like having a private chauffeur.

The staff are a family to residents. They are very consistent, personable, helpful and even provide unexpected surprise assistance; i.e., help with your buffet tray while I was using a cane.
With the deep snow, I had anxious thoughts, ‘How will we residents manage? Who will assist us?’ Then key staff and many staff persons from all departments volunteered to stay 3 nights when the snow storm blocked auto traffic … I personally tried to thank each person.

Two groups of people keep me happy at Cathedral Village; i.e., Housekeeping and Maintenance. No matter how insignificant my questions or crazy my ideas, I am not treated as a silly old lady but an adult with a problem … and this with a smile. Home was never like this!!

Several of my friends live in Retirement Homes. I always knew I wanted to come to Cathedral Village. Almost every window you look out on trees and flowers.
The Residents are talented, smart, charming people.
The help are all so friendly and nice that I don’t know where they find all of them. There are so many activities that no one ever should be bored. The first morning I woke up here I thought, "I am glad to be here" and I still feel the same.
