Health Club

Our award winning Health Club was the first complete fitness and recreational facility specifically designed for a retirement community. This innovative concept set the standard for other communities throughout the retirement industry.
The Health Club consists of
- A fully equipped Fitness Center
- A five lane Swimming Pool
- Indoor/outdoor patios
- Dressing rooms with lockers, showers, hair dryers and towels
- A massage therapy room
Fitness Center
The Director of the Health Club, an Exercise Physiologist and full-time member of our management team, designs personalized strength-training programs compatible with each resident’s needs and abilities. A wide variety of equipment, designed specifically for older adults, enhances strength training and aerobic capacity. Residents involved in fitness programs have discovered that feeling healthier is a very achievable goal because:
- Muscular strength and endurance are increased.
- Cardiovascular and cardio respiratory function is increased.
- Sleeping patterns are improved ensuring a better overall sense of well being.
- Energy levels are improved.
- Stamina, balance and posture are improved helping residents improve their function during their daily living activities.
Swimming Pool
The Health Club’s pool is available to residents and their guests from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM daily. The 3’6”- 4’6” depth makes it a perfect lap pool for avid swimmers and the casual exerciser.
- The “Buddy System” system applies to everyone who is in the pool. Anyone swimming alone needs to have at least one other adult nearby in the pool area.
- Adults must accompany visiting children while they enjoy the pool and everything it has to offer.
- For residents interested in a more diversified workout routine the Fitness Director leads Water Aerobic Classes 3 times per week.
- The use of water in aerobics supports the body and reduces the risk of muscle or joint injury. The buoyancy places less stress on the joints when stretching, and can allow a greater range of motion and freedom.
- The Water Aerobic Classes are creative, fun and can accommodate a wide variety of fitness levels.
Exercise Classes
- The Director teaches a Flex-Ability Class that helps raise body awareness while stretching and strengthening from head to toe. The class is a fusion of basic Yoga/Pilates, core strengthening, balance work and tradition therapy exercises aimed at improving overall functional ability of residents.
- A Certified Yoga Therapist, who owns her own Yoga studio in Roxborough, teaches a Chair Yoga Class and a Mat Yoga Class at Cathedral Village. Each class runs twice a week.
- A Tai Chi specialist conducts weekly advanced Tai Chi and QiGong Classes.
Massage Therapy
The private massage therapy room in the Health Club is adjacent to the Fitness Center. Certified Massage Therapists visit for residents’ appointments scheduled by the Health Club Director.
