Healthcare
The Outpatient Department is a fully equipped medical office staffed 24 hours a day/7 days a week with Registered Nurses and Licensed Graduate Practical Nurses, all employed by Cathedral Village.- The Director of the Department, a Registered Nurse with 25 years experience caring for Cathedral Village residents, is also Administrator of the Assisted Living program.
- Monday through Friday hours from 8 AM to 4 PM are for scheduled and routine visits with nurses and physicians, and emergency visits.
- When the Medical Director refers residents to specialists in major disciplines, our Outpatient Secretary makes the appointments and coordinates free Medical Transportation service with our Security Department.
- Our professional nurses staff the Department during evening, night time, weekend and holiday hours to
- Respond to all emergencies in Independent and Assisted Living.
- Perform necessary checks on residents who are recovering from illness or surgery
- Provide the continuum of care required for residents in Assisted Living including administration of medications.
Physicians
Cathedral Village primary care physicians are Certified Gerontologists and adjunct professors affiliated with Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, one of the top teaching and research hospitals in the country.- Our Medical Director and other primary care physicians are on-site Monday through Friday
- For visits in Outpatient Department with residents in Independent Living and Assisted Living
- And with residents in Bishop White Lodge, our Skilled Nursing Facility.
- Our Medical Director and other primary care physicians are always on-call 24 hours a day/7 days a week for emergencies.
Outpatient Department schedules weekly or more frequent on-site visits for residents with specialists from the following disciplines:
- Audiology
- Dentistry (for routine dental care)
- Podiatry
- Clinical Psychology
- Psychiatry
And, on a monthly basis:
- Optometry
- Optician services
Therapy Services (*)
For the advantage of all residents, our fully equipped Therapy Department, managed by a full time Director and with Licensed Therapists, provides- Physical Therapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Speech Therapy
Nursing Assistant Training Program
The Cathedral Village School is fully licensed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Private Licensed Schools and approved by the Department of Education. Our full-time Director, a Registered Nurse and Educator, conducts 5 to 6 Nursing Assistant Training Programs throughout the year. Those who meet employment requirements and who successfully complete the program may be employed by Cathedral Village. The Training Program’s purpose is to:- Maintain staffing in the delivery of health services to all residents with Nursing Assistants who are trained in our philosophy of care.
- Provide residents in Assisted Living with the security of knowing that
- Each Nursing Assistant is enrolled in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry, and
- Each has been hand chosen for the Assisted Living program.
Companion Care
Our Companion Care Department is managed by a full-time Director who is a long-time employee of Cathedral Village and responsible for training and scheduling all companions. Residents are billed separately for hourly services. For the added security of our residents, qualified men and women are employed to render companion service to residents at all levels of care.- Companions work weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed during normal daytime hours.
- Companions are trained in the Cathedral Village philosophy of care and services and are familiar with the responsibilities of all other departments.
Companions are not permitted to:
- Assist with health related services normally performed by professional nurses or nursing assistants
- Perform hair dressing or manicure services.
The primary responsibility of companions is to:
- Accompany residents to outside appointments and on bus trips.
- Help with food and clothing shopping.
- Help with personal laundry or sewing.
- Help with reading and letter writing, or
- Just provide a few hours of quiet companionship and conversation.
