The Outpatient Department for residents in independent living is managed full-time by an experienced and caring Registered Nurse who is a vital part of our management team.  Both Registered Nurses and Licensed Graduate Practical Nurses staff the Outpatient Department from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM five days a week.  In addition, one of our professional nurses is on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to respond to emergencies or to do necessary check-ups on residents who are recovering from illness or surgery. 

We are staffed five days a week with our in-house primary care physicians who are Gerontologists and who are part of the Thomas Jefferson Health System.  We are proud of our affiliation with Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, one of the top teaching and research hospitals in the country.  

Our Outpatient Department also provides office space for specialists who have hours here on a weekly basis.  We are visited at least once a week or sometimes more often by a:

● Podiatrist
● Dentist
● Psychiatrist
● Clinical Psychologist
● Audiologist 

Our Recreation Department employs Certified Recreational Therapists to supervise and provide activities for Bishop White Lodge residents.  The activities are designed based on the individual interests of our residents.

In addition to these services, we also provide our residents with an on-site Therapy Department with Licensed Therapists for:

● Physical Therapy
● Occupational Therapy
● Speech Therapy

Our Skilled Nursing Facility’s staff physicians are on-site five days a week and on-call 24-hours daily.  If feasible, residents may retain their own outside physician.  Our Physicians, Registered Nurses, Licensed Graduate Practical Nurses, and Nursing Assistants administer all medical care.

Companions may be hired for an hourly fee by residents to assist them with whatever their personal needs may be.  Our own Companion Department is managed by a full-time Director who is responsible for hiring, training and supervising all companions.  She carefully matches residents to companions with whom they would be most compatible.
